Signs of Depressive Disorder You Should Pay Immediate Attention To
Being unhappy and depressed are two different phenomena. But unfortunately, we’ve started to use them in casual conversations way too much; so much so, that it’s getting pretty out of hand TBH.
Every time we go through a tough work week or have relationship troubles, we often start considering ourselves as depressed. But do we really try to understand the difference between being sad and depressed? Do we have any idea how it feels to struggle with depression? Definitely not!

What does it really mean to be depressed?
Major depressive disorder, a condition that’s also known as clinical depression, is so much more than a mixture of feelings. It’s a debilitating mental health struggle that can slowly and silently creep into your life and derail you from everyday life functions. This condition will force you to feel things you never imagined, make it nearly impossible to function, and in the end, force you to question your own living.
Now the question is, are there any predetermining factors that can help you detect this condition before it gets worrisome?
Read through these red flags and find out yourself.
Sign 1 – Feeling of hopelessness
A case of major depression is no less than a roller coaster ride. People who’ve been there might relate. It’s an extension of a mood killer that forces you to question your existence, something like fighting with your very own demons.
This condition not only leaves you questionable but also makes you feel hopeless and helpless – one of the most common symptoms. Thoughts like “it’s all my fault” or “what’s even the point?” are recurring examples of what one feels under these circumstances.

Sign 2 – Fatigue and insomnia
The reason why you don’t enjoy life anymore or stop doing things you loved before is that you feel tired and restless. An early and most common symptom that comes with depression is fatigue or lack of energy and willpower. In this case, a person might want to sleep more or vice-versa, also known as insomnia. Which can lead to even worse conditions like anxiety, if not addressed in time.
Sign 3 – Change in appetite and physical appearance
Sure, depression is a mental condition, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to affect your physical appearance. It can often lead to sudden weight gain or weight loss, due to the immaculate fluctuations in your appetite and eating habits. This particular experience might be different for different people, but at the end of the day, depression does lead to various physical changes.

Final takeaway
Just like any other health condition, depression can also be treated. If you think that someone from among your family or friends is struggling with these exact conditions, it’ll be nice to talk to them and make them feel comfortable. People who’re struggling with depression require a calmer and more comfortable environment in order to blow off some steam and make things easier. Try to build a happy space, and let them know that they’re not alone.
