Drew Barrymore Makeup Journey and Makeup Secrets

Despite a troubled upbringing (including alcohol rehab at the age of 13), Barrymore went on to star in countless hit films like 1996’s Scream, 1998’s The Wedding Singer, 1999’s Never Been Kissed, 2000’s Charlie’s Angels and 2009’s He’s Just Not That Into You, among others. The actress started a production company, Flower Films, in 1995 with Nancy Juvonen. In addition to making many movies where Barrymore has been the leading lady, the company is responsible for Donnie Darko (2001), Whip It! (2009) and How to Be Single (2016). Now she is one of the most successful actresses in America

Barrymore is also the founder of the production company Flower Films. It produced several projects in which she has starred. She launched a range of cosmetics under the Flower banner in 2013, which has grown to include lines in make-up, perfume and eyewear. Her other business ventures include a range of wines and a clothing line. E. P. Dutton published a collection of Barrymore’s autobiographical essays in a book titled Wildflower in 2015.

While many celebrities target the luxury audience with their cosmetic line, Drew, who launched her Flower Beauty Cosmetics makeup line in 2013, went in the other direction. She decided she wanted to develop a quality product line sold at affordable prices, targeted at the vast majority of consumers who can’t afford $100 lipsticks. Barrymore signed an exclusive deal with Walmart to carry more than 180 of Flower Beauty Cosmetics’ eye, face, lip, and nail products. The products sell for less than $20.

The actress, who has starred in fluff like “Charlie’s Angels” and serious films like the prize-winning “Grey Gardens,” insisted on quality at an affordable price. This is why her Flower fragrance and makeup line, made with cruelty-free ingredients, is sold at Walmart and not Neiman Marcus. “Beauty makes you feel good,” she says.

Barrymore also chose makeup as her business line because as a former model and a prolific actress (E.T., Donnie Darko, Grey Gardens), she has spent a good chunk of her life is made up by professionals.

In an interview, she shared that she has been in the makeup chair since she was six years old and had the fortune of working with the icons of the beauty industry, learning, being in love with products, pigments, brands, companies, and just being a constant student of makeup. In 2017 Barrymore expanded Flower Beauty Cosmetics to Mexico, its first foreign market. It also began an eCommerce platform.
