A healthy and glowing skin isn’t a matter of genes and DNA but also your daily habits and your daily routine. If you have a bad or a stressful day or week, then it would first appear on your skin which is why skincare is emphasized by every person, including celebrities and dermatologists.
It is quite difficult to maintain good skin, especially as a teenager, because puberty plays havoc with your hormones, and you might start suffering from acne, regular breakouts, change of skin type, and patches.
All skincare routines are personal, and with so many skincare products at your fingertips, starting your own regimen from the bottom can seem daunting.
We have taken some guesswork and built the ultimate skincare routine that is perfect for newbies and is easy to stick to. And hopefully answers all your skincare questions before you head down to dabbing products on your face.

What are the basic steps of a skin-care routine?
There are four basic steps of a skincare routine:
- Cleansing
- Toning
- Moisturizing
- Sunscreen
Step 1: Cleansing

Washing your face is not only an essential step for your skin routine but also the most basic step of any routine. It is important to wash all environmental pollutants, dirt, and other debris off the surface of your skin. If these impurities stay on the skin, they combine with your body oil and can clog your pores and sauce pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads.
Dermatologists suggest cleaning your face at least twice a day, morning and night, to avoid clogging your pores and reduce the risks of acne. You can also use exfoliating scrubs once a week to deeply cleanse your face. For gentle cleansing, you can use CeraVe Hydrating Cream to Foam Cleanser.
Step 2: Toning
Toners are liquid supplements that deliver an extra shot of nutrients, helping the other products in your regimen to absorb better while still balancing your complexion.
Toner can be optional, and some people replace this step with serums that add another layer of skin replenishment. Whether you choose to use toner or serums, you should use products whose formulas are rich in antioxidants and help to fight environmental stressors and hydrate your skin.

Step 3: Moisturizer
Moisturizers assist in preventing water loss through the outer layer of your skin and soften the skin. Doctors recommend applying moisturizers all year round for all skin types. You can also use suitable day and night creams and eye creams to prevent general puffiness, dryness, hyperpigmentation and protect your skin from environmental aggressors.
Step 4: Sunscreen
Daily and consistent use of sunscreen can prevent the development of fine lines and wrinkles and the textural imperfections that take place on our faces over time. Experts recommend using sunscreens with SPF 50, which provides a broad spectrum UVA/ UVB protection while promoting natural radiance and an even skin tone.
